🌿 Growing Together at Titchfield Primary – A Milestone Day for EcoTitchfield

Some days just make your heart swell – and our Young EcoTitchfield Growing Day at Titchfield Primary was one of those.

This wasn’t just a gardening session. It was the result of months of conversations, planning, and slowly building trust and connection with the school – starting with our first approach back before Christmas offering our help and continuing through our February Launch Fayre. It was there that we reconnected with former Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins, whose warm-hearted offer to return and help the school came from a genuine place of wanting to support our local work.

Behind the scenes, it took a real team effort – sourcing compost and seeds, coordinating class slots, and rallying helpers. When the day arrived, the tired old allotment was bursting with promise, and the sunshine played its part too.

Every class took part in their own planting adventure, supported by their teachers and a few volunteers. Chris brought his trademark humour and kindness, and the children responded in kind – digging, planting, rehoming ladybirds, and even starting a spontaneous (and very enthusiastic) weeding competition. It was clearly impactful – one young lady hugged Chris’s leg at the end of her class and said ‘I love you’ !

There were so many special moments – the robin who kept watch from a nearby branch, the wide-eyed wonder of children discovering worms, the careful placement of tiny name tags on each seedling. After lunch the whole school gathered for a quiet, thoughtful assembly with Chris, rounding off a day full of energy, nature, and connection.

It reminded us why EcoTitchfield exists. Because when we nurture care, curiosity, and confidence in our children, we’re sowing seeds for a better future – one that values nature, community, and collaboration.

The garden beds are now in the children’s care, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved together. It was a joyful day – and just the beginning.

Small steps, big changes.
