Our first event of 2025 – thanks to everyone who made it happen !
On 1st February, EcoTitchfield hosted its first ‘Conservation Mapping Event’, led by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT). With 18 attendees, including young Scouts, local leaders, and engaged residents, the event was a fantastic success—bringing together a cross-section of our community to explore, discuss, and identify opportunities for sustainability projects.
The walk, which started at 10:30 AM and wrapped up around 1 PM, took the team through key areas of Titchfield. While some stretches were limited by private land, the rest of the route provided exciting potential for future projects. Conversations flourished, new connections were made, and participants gained a deeper understanding of how we can work together to enhance our local environment.
What’s Next?
Following the mapping exercise, Katy Gary from HIWWT will now create a detailed map and notes highlighting key areas of interest and initial project ideas. These materials will be available at our Launch Event on 15th February, helping to guide discussions and inspire action. Off the success of this first experience there could be a potential follow-up mapping event in the spring supported by HIWWT, allowing us to involve even more community residents.
During the walk, the team had many great discussions and thought-provoking questions about opportunities to enhance our local environment. These insights will help shape our thinking within the Greening Titchfield ‘Space for Nature’ pillar as we take time to reflect on what we’ve learned.
We’re also looking forward to learning more at our Launch Fayre, where Chris Collins, the former ‘Blue Peter’ gardener, will share his thoughts. Having had the chance to review our mapping exercise, he will offer insights into how other communities have tackled similar opportunities to enhance biodiversity in their local areas.
