EcoMovie Review:

EcoTitchfield welcomed around 25 residents to our latest film night to watch the newly released documentary Power Station — and it proved to be one of our most inspiring evenings yet. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a special thanks to those who kindly purchased tickets or donated to help cover the costs. Your support genuinely keeps these community events possible.

The film follows artists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn, whose bold idea to transform their Walthamstow street into a community-owned solar power station becomes a remarkable story of determination and imagination. Hilary’s drive, creativity and sheer resolve shine through every scene; her energy seems strong enough to power the project single-handedly. Alongside her, Daniel brings humour, warmth and an unwavering optimism that lifts the project during its toughest moments. Together, they are the perfect blend of focus and hope.

One of the strongest themes of the film is the rise of community power. What begins with a few conversations quickly evolves into something far deeper: neighbours forming bonds, sharing ideas, overcoming hurdles and rediscovering the joy of doing things together. The film doesn’t hide the messy parts, but it’s precisely this authenticity that makes the transformation so compelling.

A truly delightful bonus is the project’s impact on the local primary school. Inspired by the neighbourhood effort, the school becomes an active partner — installing panels, involving pupils, and weaving energy awareness into learning. The children’s excitement is infectious, and seeing a new generation directly engaged in shaping their future is one of the film’s most uplifting moments.

In the end, Power Station is more than a documentary — it’s an invitation. An invitation to imagine what’s possible here in Titchfield, and to remember that small steps really can lead to big changes.
