So as we approach Christmas, how are you approaching the subject of presents/gifts? Will everyone on your shopping list get a gift/present? Have you asked if they want a present or do we just assume/feel obliged to get them something? Will they use the gift and more importantly will it bring joy, as surely that is the main measure of a gift?
For all those gifts that in years to come will be disposed of, the question of how these gifts and everything else that we buy in a year is the question that Hampshire County Council is seeking help in understanding. They are trying to figure out how household items are reused, repaired, or disposed of. Each year the councils in Hampshire spend over £100 million in disposing of items no longer wanted.
Without comprehensive information/data, it is increasingly hard to make the correct decisions and if money is saved on waste disposal, then that can be spent on other services. So if you want to help the council make the best decisions, then they have a survey that they are asking us to complete. It takes around 10 minutes and is all anonymous, but will greatly improve the quality of the data that future decisions are taken.
As EcoTitchfield investigates how a Repair Cafe may fit into village life to help reduce waste, please take the time to complete the following survey.

The survey closes Sunday 11th January 2026
