Here at EcoTitchfield, we’re always on the lookout for ways to champion greener living and reduce waste in our community. This week, we had the privilege of welcoming our friend Emma to the village. Emma works for Too Good To Go, the popular food waste app, and she shared insights into their mission and how their platform is transforming how we think about food surplus.
For those unfamiliar, Too Good To Go connects users with local businesses—such as bakeries, cafes, and restaurants—offering surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. These items, which are still perfectly good to eat, are sold at a fraction of their original price, making the app a win-win for reducing waste and saving money.
To put the app to the test, we decided to make a purchase ourselves. The process was incredibly straightforward: we logged in, identified that our local Co-op was participating in the program, and reserved a “Surprise Bag,” an undefined selection of bakery goods nearing their sell-by date. When we picked up the bag later in the evening, we were thrilled with the variety of delicious items it contained—all at an unbeatable price!
Not only did the experience prove that using Too Good To Go is simple and rewarding, but it also sparked deeper conversations within our group about how small actions can collectively create significant change. Food waste is a pressing global issue, contributing to environmental problems like greenhouse gas emissions and resource inefficiency. By supporting initiatives like Too Good To Go, we can take tangible steps toward reducing this waste while enjoying great food.
The visit also reinforced our belief that sustainability can be practical and enjoyable. It’s about making mindful choices that align with our values and encourage others to do the same. We’re excited to continue exploring ways to integrate tools like Too Good To Go into our everyday lives and share these ideas with our wider Titchfield community.
We’d love to hear your experiences with the app or other sustainability practices you’ve found effective. Together, we can make a difference—one delicious Surprise Bag at a time! 🎁
Thanks Emma for sharing your insights and best wishes for the rest of your Christmas Holidays, it was great to have you visit.
